I write the Nourished Hearts Blog to encourage, inspire, and create community around those who are adopting or have adopted, provide foster care and/or work in orphan care ministry internationally. I started this ministry to help others deal with the specific issues we as caregivers face when caring for children who come from ‘hard beginnings.’
Before starting this blog, my husband and I adopted from Ukraine, in a year-long, in-country struggle for our son. I developed an insider’s view to many international adoption issues. Prior to our adoption journey, I spent over 13 years as a corporate human resources and corporate trainer. I currently write and speak about our story and orphan care topics. My first book, written with the amazing Ginger Kolbaba, focuses on our adoption journey and is titled “Until We All Come Home: A Harrowing Journey, a Mother’s Courage, a Race to Freedom” (FaithWords, November 2012).
I am also on staff with Food for Orphans as their Life Changing Mission Trips Manager. Please visit us at www.foodfororphans.org for more information about this amazing orphan outreach.
It’s important for us to create community with each other – for ourselves and the children in our lives. Think of Nourished Hearts as my ‘web kitchen table,’ have your favorite mug ready and let’s chat about the struggles were facing, find encouragement, and help inspire others around us to join us in caring for the least of these.
Please feel free to stay in touch with what Nourished Hearts has to say through our subscription. You may also connect with me on Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn.
Your story should be about you or you interviewing someone else (with that being clearly defined and with their written permission for you to share). The story can be one of encouragement, one of loss or one of a lesson learned. It doesn’t need to portray anything dramatic or unusual and the last thing we need is more lofty ideals that people can’t measure up to. Gut-level revelation/discussion is what I’m after. Every time I share a little bit of our adoption journey, a comment is made similar to “Wow, that sounds like a book/movie.” Not sure about the movie, but the book, “Until We All Come Home” has been contracted with Hachette/FaithWords and was published on November 6 , 2012, and is available at Barnes & Noble and Amazon.com and wherever fine books are sold. God has definitely been evident throughout our lives. I can hardly wait to see what He has in store for us next!
